Benton Community won its 4A semifinal softball contest over Charles City, 6-0, at Van Horne on Saturday, July 9.
Benton had nine hits in the game. Emma Townsley was 1 for 4. Ana Glawe was 1 for 3. Gabby McKee was 1 for 4 with one RBI. Jessa DeMoss was 2 for 4. Sarah Gorkow was 1 for 4 with one RBI. Jaida Lyons was 1 for 2 with one RBI. Hope Moore was 2 for 3 with a double and one RBI. Stealing one base each were McKee, Hope Moore and Madiysn Schulze. The team had no errors. Benton had two walks and five strikeouts.
DeMoss threw for seven innings, allowing two hits, no runs, walking four and striking out 11. Charles City pitcher Natalie White threw for six innings, allowed nine hits, six runs (three earned), walked one, hit two batters and struck out five.
No 14 Benton (25-15) plays at No. 4 Norwalk (28-7) on Tuesday, July 12, at 7 p.m. at Norwalk Middle School.

Bobcats close regular season against Assumption; prepare for tourney game

Benton had three hits in the closing of the regular season against Davenport Assumption. Getting singles were Zane Frese, Wyatt Rinderknecht and Evan Daugherty. Benton had 11 strikeouts and two errors. Jordan Thys threw for 1 1/3 innings, allowed one hit, nor runs, walked one, hit one batter and struck out one. Lane Kaestner took the loss, throwing two innings, allowing four hits, six runs (four earned), walking one, hitting one batter and striking out two. Ryan Finn threw for 1 2/3 innings, allowing three hits, three earned runs, walking three and striking out one.
Benton (17-19) travels to Decorah (21-10) on Friday, July 8, in the first round of Class 3A-3 baseball. The game starts at 7 p.m.
