My name is Tim Lyons, the Transportation Director at Benton. I started as the mechanic 25 years ago and then moved into the role of Transportation Director. I am a Benton grad (once a Bobcat, always a Bobcat) and have one daughter that is a graduate of Benton and two grandchildren that go to Benton. In my spare time I like to be with my family, take day trips, and travel.

Benton CSD welcomed new certified staff yesterday. They spent the morning learning and reflecting with Dr. Bieschke and Mrs. Selk and the afternoon with teacher leaders touring each community and school building in the district.

Employee Spotlight: Katie Bauder, Keystone Elementary Principal
Katie answers the question, "Why did you choose to come back to Benton"?
I have an extreme sense of pride, honor, and belonging associated with returning to Benton, which I consider my home (you can’t take the Bobcat out of anyone). This feeling of coming back to a place where I feel a strong connection and sense of identity is indeed a powerful and meaningful experience. It's often referred to as a "homecoming" and it evokes a range of emotions, including nostalgia, happiness, and a deep sense of being rooted. Embracing the familiarity and comfort of my hometown, and feeling proud of my association with it, brings a source of great joy and contentment.

These drivers haul the most precious cargo "Benton Community students". So please beware of them traveling on our roads and especially when they are stopped and the lights are flashing. Parents remind your students to use their seat belts and bus tag when getting on and off the bus.

FFA Summer Update
Benton FFA members have had a busy summer participating in Career Development Events, the Benton County Fair, Washington Leadership Conference and community events and parades.
At the Benton County Fair members not only exhibited livestock but also volunteered their time working for the Dairy Producers and Cattlemen as well as the FFA Learning Barn. In the FFA Learning Barn, members worked with area youth by passing out chicks, bunnies, and piglets. In addition, they put on workshops throughout the fair teaching about agriculture.
Members participated in the Belle Plaine parade and plan to be in the Watermelon Days parade as well.
FFA members will be putting on a pedal tractor pull Watermelon Days which will be held on Friday, August 4th at 5:30 PM.
August brings 24 members exhibiting at the Iowa State Fair. Projects include livestock, tractor restoration, photography and crops.
