VJ Schulte was 3 for 4 with a double, triple and three RBIs. Drew Fillenworth was 2 for 5 with a double, triple and two RBIs. Eli Patterson stole one base. Benton had one error. VJ Schulte threw for three innings, allowed two hits and struck out two. Fillenworth threw for three innings, allowed one hit and struck out two. He was the winning pitcher. Grady Frese threw for one inning and struck out two.
Benton (26-6) hosts Williamsburg (11-18) in the first round of the IHSAA 3A Substate 8.

Benton (14-11) travels to No. 12 Grinnell (24-4) on Monday, June 30. Benton hosts No. 15 Center Point-Urbana (17-12) on Wednesday, July 2. On Thursday, July 13, Benton hosts Solon (16-12).
On Thursday, July 10, Benton hosts Iowa Falls-Alden at 7 p.m., for the start of the Class 3A Region 4 tournament. The winner goes on to play in round two on Saturday, July 12, at 7 p.m. at Van Horne.


Iowa's new Hands -Free Driving law goes into effect July 1st. This law prohibits drivers from holding or manually operating a cell phone or other electronic device while driving.
