Benton turned up for its tournament game with a 9-0 win over Vinton-Shellsburg, Tuesday, July 8, 2025, in Van Horne. Benton had eight hits. VJ Schulte was 3 for 4 with a double, triple and three RBIs. Drew Fillenworth was 2 for 5 with a double, triple and two RBIs. Eli Patterson stole one base. Benton had one error. VJ Schulte threw for three innings, allowed two hits and struck out two. Fillenworth threw for three innings, allowed one hit and struck out two. He was the winning pitcher. Grady Frese threw for one inning and struck out two.

Benton (26-6) hosts Williamsburg (11-18) in the first round of the IHSAA 3A Substate 8.

Benton had 12 hits. VJ Schulte had two RBIs. Drew Fillenworth was 2 for 3. Carson Nolan was 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs. Kale Gallagher was 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Kaleb Hupke was 2 for 4 with a double. Fillenworth stole two bases. Nolan stole one. Brooks Mitchell-Birdsell threw for seven innings, allowed nine hits, three runs (two earned), and struck out five.

Benton 6, Grinnell 1

Benton had nine hits. Eli Patterson was 2 for 2. Grady Frese had two RBIs. Gallagher was 2 for 3 with a double and one RBI. Patterson stole one base. Fillenworth was the winning pitcher. He threw for six innings, allowed three hits, one earned run, hit two batters and struck out nine.

Benton (22-5) hosts Xavier (15-14) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, in Van Horne. Benton hosts Solon (16-11) at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, at Van Horne. On Thursday, July 3, at Van Horne, it's a conference doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. against Center Point-Urbana (6-16). Benton hosts Vinton-Shellsburg (4-16) on Tuesday, July 8, at 7 p.m. Tournament action starts Friday, July 11, at 7 p.m. at Van Horne against Williamsburg (10-14).

DeMoss was 2 for 3. Stealing one base each were Moore, Greiner and Libi Frese. Ellie Williamson threw for 1/3 innings, allowed 10 hits, seven runs (two earned), and hit one batter. Paige Meyer threw for two outs, and allowed one hit. Benton 16, Davenport West 1 BC 481 3 - 16 DW 001 0 - 1 Benton had 18 hits. Moore was 3 for 4 with one RBI. Greiner was 3 for 3 with three doubles and three RBIs. Glawe was 2 for 3 with a double, home run and four RBIs. Calista Nolte was 2 for 4 with one RBI. Marissa Nolte was 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs. DeMoss stole one base. Moore threw for four innings, allowed three hits, one earned run, walked one, hit one batter and struck out five. Benton (14-11) travels to No. 12 Grinnell (24-4) on Monday, June 30. Benton hosts No. 15 Center Point-Urbana (17-12) on Wednesday, July 2. On Thursday, July 13, Benton hosts Solon (16-12). On Thursday, July 10, Benton hosts Iowa Falls-Alden at 7 p.m., for the start of the Class 3A Region 4 tournament. The winner goes on to play in round two on Saturday, July 12, at 7 p.m. at Van Horne.

Iowa's new Hands -Free Driving law goes into effect July 1st. This law prohibits drivers from holding or manually operating a cell phone or other electronic device while driving.
