Solon edges Benton in Class 3A football playoff, 34-27 -Courtesy of Jim Magdefrau Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, at Van Horne Solon (8-2) 34, Benton (7-3) 27 S 6 6 15 7 - 34 BC 0 13 7 7 - 27 Benton's Carson Nolan was 6 of 15 for passing for 76 yards. Benton rushed for 250 yards. Logan Upah had two carries for 13 yards. Nolan had 17 carries for 94 yards and one touchdown. Dylan Lefebvere had 27 carries for 143 yards and two touchdowns. Upah caught four passes for 53 yards. Eli Patterson caught two passes for 23 yards. LeFebvere had 11 total tackles with 10 solo. Brenden Heying and 8.5 total tackles with four solo. Blayke Heying had 8 total tackles with six solo. Mayson Mitchel and Blayke Heying each had a sack. Nolan intercepted one pass with a return of 15 yards. Upah had two kickoff returns for 32 yards. Owen Von Ahsen had two returns for 100 yards with a 50-yard touchdown. Jason Eastman had one return for six yards. Elijah Kupka had five kickoffs for 232 yards. He was 3 of 4 points after touchdown and missed one field goal. He punted twice for 70 yards. Solon's Ty Bell was 17 of 23 for passing for 219 yards and three touchdowns. He threw one interception. Solon rushed for 125 yards, led by Eddie Johnson with 92 yards. Middle School's Pumpkin Decorating Contest Results: Scariest pumpkin goes to Eyes Pumpkin by Kupka's 5th block. Silliest pumpkin goes to Gary the Snail by Zittergruen's 5th block. Most creative pumpkin goes to Cheeseburger by Hase's 5th block. The overall winner goes to Pinocchio by Jones' 5th block.

Benton Community DECA students Kayley Dirks, Hailey Suiter, Jonah Gorsh, Parker Mitchell, and Peter Rashidi participated in the DECA fall conference in Ames on Wednesday, Oct. 30th. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges.

Benton Community honored new inductees into the National Honor Society on Wednesday, October 30th. Special thanks to Reese Morgan for delivering the keynote speech at the banquet. Congratulations, Bobcats!
