I teach 5th grade in Norway. I am married to Mrs, Bergert, who also teaches in Norway and we have 3 fantastic kids, 2 dogs (a Rottweiler and a German Shepherd), a cat that lives outside, and several classroom pets. I served in the military for 22 years and I have been working in public education since 2003. My family and I enjoy sports, hiking, road trips, and watching movies together in our cozy loft.

Next week the high school student council will be having dress up days leading up to Christmas break.
● Monday- I’m dreaming of a white christmas (PJ Day)
● Tuesday- Toasty Tuesday ( Wear holiday socks, slippers, and hats)
● Wednesday- Holiday Festive (Wear your christmas colors)

This is my fourth year as a high school science teacher at Benton. In my time here, I have been able to teach foundations of science, physics, biology, and human biology (essentially all types of science!). Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family, friends, and my two cats.

Congratulations to Benton Community Junior William Kroneman and his teammate Olivia Hanson from LaPorte Union High school who participated in the Iowa Cattlemen’s Foundation Beef Scholarship Extravaganza contest. Out of 14 teams from across Iowa, they brought home 1st place and a $2,500 scholarship for each of them. William and his family would like to thank Mrs. Wright and Mr. Reid for being his references for the interview portion of the contest and for teaching some of his favorite classes and encouraging him along the way. William and Olivia’s photo will be included in the Iowa Cattlemen’s magazine in January. #BeABobcat #APlaceToBelong
