Benton Community lost in the first game to North Scott at the Rick Doran Softball Classic, Iowa City. Benton had eight hits. Emma Townsley was 2 for 4. Hannah Greiner was 1 for 3 with one RBI. Ana Glawe was 1 for 3. Gabby McKee was 2 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs. Jesse DeMoss was 1 for 3. Jaida Lyons was 1 for 3. Losing pitcher Jess DeMoss threw for seven innings, and allowed 13 hits, nine earned runs, walked no one and struck out five.

Benton bounced back with a win over Iowa City West. Benton had 15 hits. Emma Townsley was 2 for 4. Jaida Lyons was 3 for 5 with three RBIs. Gabby McKee was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs. Jesse DeMoss was 2 for 3 with a double and one RBI. Lexie Pippert was 1 for 2 with one RBI. Haiden Moore was 2 for 1. Fiona McCleod was 1 for 1. Mary Phillips was 1 for 1.
Benton (24-15) hosts Waterloo East (4-26) or Charles City (15-10) on Saturday, July 9, in the semifinal of Class 4A Region 6. The game is at 7 p.m.

The Bobcat baseball team had eight hits in the first game at Independence. Jordan Thys was 2 for 3. Zane Frese was 1 for 3 with a triple. Lane Kaestner was 1 for 2 with two RBI. Easton Patterson was 1 for 3 with one RBI. Wyatt Rinderknecht was 2 for 3 with a double and one RBI. Cael Kaestner was 1 for 3 with two RBI. Benton had three errors. Benton had six pitchers. Gallagher threw for one out, allowed five hits, five runs (none earned), walked two and struck out one. Patterson took the loss and threw for two outs. He allowed two hits, seven runs (two earned), and walked four. Rinderknecht threw for one inning, allowed three hits, four earned runs, walked three, hit one batter and struck out one. Colby Lennie threw for one inning, allowed four hits, four earned runs, walked one, and hit one batter. Blake Daugherty threw for one inning, allowed no hits or runs, and walked one.

Blake Daugherty threw one inning, allowed five hits and four earned runs.

Benton picked up two WaMaC wins at Independence on Monday, June 20. In the first game Benton had 20 hits. Hope Moore was 2 for 5 with one RBI. Hannah Greiner was 2 for 2 with one RBI. Ana Glawe was 1 for 2 with a double and one RBI. McKee was 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs. Jessa DeMoss was 4 for 4 with three doubles and four RBIs. Gorkow was 1 for 4 with one RBI. Jaida Lyons was 3 for 4 with one RBI. Lexie Pippert was 2 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Emma Townsley was 3 for 4. The team had one error. Winning pitcher DeMoss threw for five innings, allowed four hits, three runs (two earned), walked five and struck out four.
Benton held on for an 8-7 win in the second game. The team had 11 hits. Hope Moore was 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Greiner was 2 for 4 with two RBIs. DeMoss was 2 for 4 with one RBI. Gorkow was 1 for 4 with a double. Lyons had one RBI. Pippert was 1 for 3 with a double. Townsley was 3 for 3 with one RBI. Benton had no errors. Winning pitcher Hope Moore threw for seven innings, allowed 12 hits, seven earned runs, walked one and struck out five.
