To set our students up for success, we introduce student choice with clear guidelines, boundaries, and practiced routines right from the start.
Here is a look at how our students are taking ownership of their learning in these first few weeks:
● Reading Options: Students select how they engage with texts—reading independently, partnering up, working in small groups, or following along with teacher-led read-alouds. To personalize their learning further, students choose supplemental articles that let them dive deeper into the real-world topics tied to our class novel.
● Flexible Comprehension: Learners choose to complete guided reading notes as they read or work through a post-reading activity.
● Interactive Vocabulary: Moving beyond rote memorization, students select how they master new words—rewriting definitions, identifying parts of speech, finding synonyms/antonyms, writing original sentences, or drawing visual connections.
● Customized Study Tools: To support their individual learning needs, students personalize their review process by creating physical flashcards, digital study sets, or interactive matching games.
