Benton Community 7th graders are hard at work in the math classroom. Outside of taking notes, homework, and assessments, it is important for students to learn in an engaging way. A new favorite for students is an escape room. Students are given questions over topics that we cover in class, and based on their answer they need to crack the code to move onto the next level. As students work through the levels, they are learning how to collaborate with one another, listen to different ideas, and productively struggle in order to complete each task.
Students in Advanced Math recently completed an experiment that turned pasta into triangles. Students were given different angles and three pieces of raw spaghetti to make their triangle. After the triangle was created, students had to measure the side lengths and angles from their newly created triangle. Students were able to discover the many different triangles we can create from different angles. Advanced math students were effective communicators, critical thinkers, and collaborating with classmates.
