Every year after the holiday break, our staff and students take time to review common area expectations in shared spaces such as the hallways, bathrooms, lunchroom, and at recess. During these discussions, students reflect on what it means to be a responsible, respectful, caring, and safe Bobcat in each setting.
This year’s PBIS reboot featured a special leadership opportunity for our 3rd-grade students. They practiced their speaking, listening, and leadership skills by helping lead the reboot conversations. Their involvement not only strengthened their confidence but also reinforced the importance of student voice and leadership within our school community.
To continue motivating and reinforcing positive behavior, our staff is now focusing on recess expectations for our K–1 and 2nd–3rd grade recess groups through an engaging game of Bobcat Bingo. Each square on the Bobcat Bingo board lists an expected recess behavior. Staff members look for these behaviors during recess and cross off squares as they observe them. Students will earn hockey when a Bobcat Bingo is earned, and achieving a blackout will be rewarded with an extra recess. This fun and interactive approach encourages teamwork, responsibility, and positive choices, helping make recess a safe and enjoyable experience for all Bobcats.
