SkillsUSA recently competed at the ABC of Iowa competitions. Our SkillsUSA treasurer Ben Hahn wrote the following summary of the competition:
On Friday a few members of SkillsUSA went to the ABC competitions and job fair. The job fair was full of Des Moines local businesses and many hands-on demonstrations like plumbing, electrical, welding and heavy equipment. The competitions featured Carpentry and Welding for our Highschool students. The objective of the welding competition was to weld a piece of horizontal pipe to a piece of vertical flat stock with a stick welder. Students had to weld the pipe from bottom to top and clean it in 20 minutes. The Carpentry team had 5 hours to build a raised garden box with a step on the front and a lattice in the back. Although we did not place in the competitions students still learned a lot and had fun.
