It feels like every week there is a new trend that sweeps through the high school. From YOLO to bussin’ to sus, these phrases all fizzle out relatively quickly. The newest phrase being 6-7 has taken the school setting by storm. As teachers, we can either ignore the trend or embrace it. I have chosen the latter.
In math class it has become enjoyable creating problems to include 6-7 as either an answer or a step in an equation. Every time the students catch on to what I have done it is either greeted with a groan, an eye roll, or a laugh. Either way, it has improved student engagement and allows me to connect with the students in a different way. All generations have their sayings or catch phrases that they use. Let’s enjoy the excitement this has created for this generation.
