Atkins Elementary works hard to support PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports), a framework that improves behavior and fosters a positive school culture. It focuses on preventing negative behaviors by clearly defining expectations, teaching them, and then rewarding students as they work towards their goals. Each month, a couple of students from each class are selected by their teachers for demonstrating PBIS expectations. Every two months, we hold an assembly to recognize students' hard work. Each grade level has Minute to Win It activities to motivate and acknowledge positive behaviors. Students are engaged and encouraged to celebrate each other's accomplishments.
