Reading in 6th grade is extremely important because it helps students build the skills they need to succeed in all subjects. As texts become more complex, students must learn to think critically, understand deeper meanings, and make inferences. Reading also improves vocabulary and comprehension, which helps students express their ideas more clearly in both writing and speaking. The more students read, the stronger their ability to understand new information and connect it to what they already know.
Reading is also important because it helps students discover new interests and perspectives. On Wednesdays, 6th grade students spend time independent reading and thinking about what they comprehend through different Reading Responses. The pictures are a collage of what students read during class.
In 6th grade, developing a love for reading sets the foundation for lifelong learning and personal growth.
