This summer, members of the Benton Spanish Club embarked on an unforgettable educational journey across Spain and Germany. Our group began their travels in Germany, where we visited the fairytale-like Neuschwanstein Castle nestled in the Bavarian Alps. Students also spent a day at the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site, a powerful and emotional experience that offered deep historical reflection and perspective on World War II.
From there, we traveled to Spain, beginning with a homestay in Segovia, where we experienced daily Spanish life firsthand. In Segovia, students explored the city’s famous Roman aqueducts and sampled traditional Spanish foods. Afterward, we journeyed to the historic town of Toledo, where we enjoyed a thrilling zipline ride across the Tagus River — an unforgettable highlight of the trip. The next stop was Madrid, where we toured the Plaza de Toros and admired world-famous artwork at the Prado Museum. The adventure continued in Barcelona, highlighted by a visit to Antoni Gaudí’s breathtaking Sagrada Familia, one of Spain’s most iconic landmarks.
The two-week trip ended with a relaxing beach day on the beautiful Costa Brava, giving students time to reflect on their travels and soak up the Mediterranean sun. The Benton Spanish Club returned home with lasting memories, stronger language skills, and a deeper appreciation for European culture and history. We are looking forward to our next trip to Spain in 2027!
