As a Physical Education teacher and Coach in the Benton Community School District, the weight room and its complementary locations are extremely important to me. As such, this summer a team of coaches and physical education teachers have tried to put together and implement a consistent strength and speed training program for ALL of our Benton athletes.

This Summer and into the Fall we have been using a program broken down into four sections. Starting every workout day with a core session, into super set 1 that includes our Core Lift for the day, then to super set 2 and ending with a Finisher. Starting new this summer we added a timing element which we broadcast onto one of the new tv screens in the weight room so that all participants can see the timer countdown. We think this is allowing our students a positive framework to work through their exercises and then have an appropriate level of rest before beginning the next round. Again, we think this helps with consistency.

Putting together a program that helps all our students become better athletes is what we have been striving for and we think this is the route that will help us achieve that. Better athletes help ALL of our extracurricular athletic programs and we as a PE staff, as well as our coaches, are putting in the time and effort to help Benton Community Athletics be the best it can be.
