Each year Benton Community School buses travel about 258,000 miles for daily routes and 26,000 miles for activity and field trips. It is everyone’s job to look out for the safety of the students. Every day there is about 216,000 illegal passings of a school bus and that translates to about 39.3 million a year across the United States. It is everyone’s job to bring these numbers down to transport students safely to and from school and school activities. If you are caught in Iowa doing an illegal drive by of a school bus you could lose you license for 30 days plus a hefty fine. Many buses around the country have outside cameras to read license plates, here at Benton we utilize three outside cameras to catch people doing illegal passing of school buses. So please if you see a bus with its lights flashing think that it could be your kids or grandkids getting on or off that bus.
