In Iowa, students entering 7th grade are required to receive specific immunizations before the first day of school. These requirements include:

Meningococcal Vaccine: A single dose administered on or after the student’s 10th birthday.

Tdap Vaccine: A one-time dose of the Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (whooping cough) booster, given on or after the student’s 10th birthday.

These immunizations are mandated by the Iowa Department of Public Health to protect students from serious diseases. Proof of vaccination must be submitted before school starts in August. Parents or guardians may request exemptions for medical or religious reasons. To do so, they must submit a valid Certificate of Immunization Exemption form to the school. To ensure compliance with these requirements, parents should consult with their child’s healthcare provider and submit necessary documentation to the school. Now is a great time to beat the back to school rush by making an appointment for your incoming 7th grader.
