Each May, 7th grade students have the opportunity to attend a Financial Literacy Fair at the Linn Regional Center, organized by the Workplace Learning Connection. Throughout the year, during their 7th Grade Careers class, students research various careers and complete a planning worksheet they will use at the fair. This worksheet includes the career they selected, the entry-level salary, and the education required for that profession.

At the fair, students visit a variety of booths—such as housing, transportation, insurance, student loans, utilities, food, and clothing—to determine their cost of living. The goal is for students to manage their expenses and maintain a positive budget balance.

Overall, the 7th graders enjoy the experience. They often realize that the cost of living is higher than expected and come to understand the importance of choosing a career that aligns with their desired lifestyle.
