This year the Benton Community School District purchased the curriculum, Character Strong. This curriculum helps teachers and students learn about building social emotional competence, grow character, and grow strong teacher-student relationships. I have had the privilege this year to teach this to all of our 6th grade students.
Once a week we dive into topics that deal with building a community, middle school myth busting, understanding values, and many more topics.
The lessons focus on both individual and group responses to questions and situations that this age group deals with daily. The discussion is my favorite part and allows students to talk through things in a safe environment. I appreciate students with their honesty and willingness to take part in the lessons to help grow their character. By strengthening character we are actually strengthening the community we love, Benton Community!
