Benton Community fourth graders have been exploring energy! Students investigated how energy is stored, how energy has the ability to make objects move, and how collisions transfer energy between objects. Students were able to build a variety of gadgets and devices that could convert energy from one form to another form (for example, heat into movement and electricity into light).

In one lesson, students explored the question, ‘What if there is no electricity?’ Students were introduced to electricity as a form of energy. Students also examined how important electricity is to our everyday lives. Fourth graders discovered and investigated electrical circuits and how to make their own mini flashlights using LED’s, button batteries and strips of aluminum foil. Students definitely have a new appreciation of light switches and a deeper understanding of electrical circuits!
