Building resiliency is an important part of raising strong children. By teaching children healthy habits and modeling proper social emotional skills, we can all contribute to building resilient children.

Healthy habits may include things such as creating home and school routines. Children thrive on structure and routine, which ultimately helps deter unwanted behaviors. In addition to routines, creating clear expectations is also essential. But the most important part is to promote positivity as much as possible. When children do what is expected, praise them!

Children learn many social emotional skills through what they see. Therefore, it is important as adults to model these skills for them. This can be done through identifying emotions starting at an early age through books, TV shows, and everyday life situations. Also, practicing coping skills in a regulated state, helps provide the tools for use in unregulated states.

Lastly, as Mr. Pfiffner always says, “It takes a village to raise a child”. That could not be more true. It is okay to reach out for help. In addition to the school system supports, Tanager also has therapy services, BHIS, and many other supports in Benton County.
