As I reflect back on my first year of teaching in 2007 I remember starting with only one section of accounting with about 16 students. Now in my 16th year as a teacher at Benton Community we have three sections of accounting and about 60 students.
Accounting I is a great class for students to take for a couple of reasons. Number one it prepares students for college accounting classes. If you take Accounting I and Accounting II in High School it will make accounting in college easier. I have had numerous former students tell me that they were ahead of the game when they got to college. The second reason it is a great class to take is it is a great skill to have. Whether you actually go into accounting professionally in the future, or you use your accounting skills to manage your own personal accounts; it is a great class to take in high school.
