For the safety of staff and our students, Benton Community Schools & Central Lutheran is canceled for Thursday, December 22, 2022.
Thursday was scheduled for an early dismissal at noon, however, school is now cancelled.
We will have school tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec. 21. If anything changes for tomorrow, we will let you know right away.
All buildings and grounds will be closed Thursday and Friday, Dec. 22 & 23rd for all practices and outside groups who use our facilities.
I teach 5th grade in Norway. I am married to Mrs, Bergert, who also teaches in Norway and we have 3 fantastic kids, 2 dogs (a Rottweiler and a German Shepherd), a cat that lives outside, and several classroom pets. I served in the military for 22 years and I have been working in public education since 2003. My family and I enjoy sports, hiking, road trips, and watching movies together in our cozy loft.
I am in my 34th year of teaching; 23 of those years at Benton Community. I am a graduate of the Benton Community class of 1983. I currently teach 4th-6th grade Special Education at Norway Intermediate. I live near Amana with my husband, Joel and son, Trey. Our daughter, Holli and son-in-law Sam were also Benton graduates.
Hello! My name is Claire Hentges and I teach fourth grade at Norway Intermediate School. This is my third year of teaching and my first in fourth grade. I live in Cedar Rapids with my husband, two kids, and two doodles. Happy Holidays!!

Dee Kulbartz is in her 10th year as the school nurse at Norway Intermediate. Dee and her husband, Jeremy, have three children and enjoy attending their activities, watching sports and spending time with family and friends.

This is my 22nd year of teaching and my second year with Benton Community School District. I have the privilege to teach special education at Norway Intermediate and enjoy being a Benton Bobcat. Mr. Bergert, who also teaches at Norway, and I have three kids (two boys and a girl) who attend Benton as well. When we are not at school our family enjoys hiking, biking and enjoying nature.
