Courtesy of Jim Magdefrau Bobcat baseball team earns another win Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at LaPorte City BC 412 70 - 14 U 001 00 - 1 Benton had 14 hits. Lane Kaestner was 2 for 3 with one RBI. Ryan Finn was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs. Evan Daugherty, Easton Patterson, and Colby Lennie had two RBIs each. Stealing one base each were Jordan Thys and Patterson. The team had one errors. Lane Kaestner threw for five innings, allowed five hits and one earned run, walked one and had one sacrifice.

Last night the school board recognized this years retirees. Congratulations to Dr. Pamela Ewell, Barb Mattison, and Mary Wilhelmi! We wish you all the best!

MS Boys Track will turn in their equipment during 5th block TOMORROW, May 18 in Coach Telgenhoff’s room. 8th graders planning on playing basketball, please attend the basketball meeting first and then after the meeting, turn in your uniforms.

Basketball Meetings: ● 8th grade boys interested in playing basketball will meet during 5th block TOMORROW, May 18 in Coach Zittergruen's room. ● 7th grade boys interested in playing basketball will meet during 5th block on Friday, May 19 in Coach Zittergruen's room. ● Boys in grades 9 - 11 will meet in Mr. Voss' room on Tuesday, May 23rd during 5th block for a short organizational meeting.

Students in 8th -11th grade: Auditions for the fall musical, "Once Upon a Mattress," will be held in the auditorium today, May 17 from 3:45-5:30 and tomorrow, May 18 from 5:30-7 pm. If neither of these times will work for you, please contact Ms. Knaack.

I am finishing up my 26th year here at Benton Community. I direct the middle school concert and jazz bands, assist with the high school bands, and direct the two show choir bands. I live in North Liberty with my husband, Patrick and sons, Thomas and Ethan who attend Benton Community. In my free time you’ll find me cheering on my boys at football and baseball games or attending Iowa sporting events.

Jordan Thys was 1 for 1. Evan Daugherty was 1 for 2. Lane Kaestner was 1 for 4 and had one RBI. Wyatt Rinderknecht was 1 for 2, with one RBI. Ryan Finn was 1 for 3 with two RBIs. Blake Daugherty was 1 for 3 with one RBI. Benton had seven strikeouts. They also had seven stolen bases, led by Rinderknecht with two. With one each were Jordan Thys, Evan Daugherty, Easton Patterson, Blake Daugherty and Dawson Rozek. The team had two errors. Jordan Thys started and picked up the win, throwing for five innings, allowing three hits, no runs, walking one and striking out six. Drew Fillenworth threw for two innings, allowed no hits, walked one and struck out two. Benton travels to Union on Wednesday, May 17, hosts Linn-Mar on Thursday, May 18, and hosts Marshalltown on Friday, May 19.

MS Cross Country Meeting: On Tuesday, May 23 there will be a meeting for all boys and girls in grades 7th and 8th interested in running cross country next fall. The meeting will be in Mr. Zittergruen’s room during Block 5. If you can’t attend contact Coach Thomae during the day on Tuesday in Room 213.

Courtesy of Jim Magdefrau Soccer teams win first-round games at home Monday, May 15, 2023, at Van Horne Class 1A, Region 2 girls’ soccer Benton (5-10) 10, Monticello (0-13) 0 M 0 0 – 0 BC 4 6 – 10 Piper Nelson had five goals. With one goal each were Delaynee Slouha, Ellie Williamson, Ashlee Michels, Kyla Voelkel and LeeAnn Hlas. Olivia Janss had two assists. With one assist each were Kiera Coffin and Kyla Voelkel. Nelson had 10 shots on goal. The team had 35 shots. Voelkel added seven shots and Michels ahd five. With three each were Janss and Delaynee Slouha. With two each were Coffin and Williamson. Wth one each were Ava Meyer, Pieng Saysuib and Hlass. Benton travels to Nevada (11-3) on Wednesday, May 17, as the tournament continues. Class 2A-4 boys’ soccer at Van Horne First round Benton (7-9) 6, Anamosa (2-13) 0 No statistics available. Benton travels to Williamsburg (12-3) on Monday, May 22, in the second round of the 2A-4 tournament.

Football meetings this week during 5th period in Coach Zittergruens room: Tuesday, May 16: Current 8th Grade; Wednesday, May 17: Current 7th Grade

8th Grade Boys: There will be a meeting on Friday for all 8th graders thinking about wrestling next year. The meeting will take place in the wrestling room during the 5th hour.

Spain Trip: All students going on the Spain trip this summer-there will be a meeting in Mrs. Telgenhoff's room TOMORROW, May 17, during 5th block. If you are not able to attend, please see Mrs. Telgenhoff for the information.

Student Council: TOMORROW, May 17th, from 12:30 -1:00, there will be a student council meeting in Mrs. Neve's room for current representatives as well as the incoming student council representatives for the 2023-24 school year. Students attending the meeting should communicate with their teachers ahead of time to determine what work needs to be made up.
