Lady Bobcats are edged in the first round of girls’ basketball tournament -Courtesy of Jim Magdefrau Monday, Feb. 26, 2024, at Wells Fargo Arena, Des Moines Girls' state basketball tournament, Class 3A Des Moines Christian (23-1) 49, Benton (18-6) 46 BC 5 14 13 14 - 46 DMC 9 14 12 14 - 49 Benton was 14 of 49 for field goals, 7 of 30 for three-pointers, and 11 of 15 for free throws. They had 32 rebounds, five assists, three steals, five blocks, six turnovers and 14 fouls. McKenna Kramer led Benton with 17 points, including 4 of 12 shooting for three-pointers. Emma Townsley added 15 points. Piper Nelson had eight rebounds. Townsley had four assists. Nelson had two steals and four blocks. Des Moines Moines Christian was 18 of 41 for field goals, 4 of 11 for three-pointers and 9 of 14 for free throws. They had 31 rebounds, nine assists, three steals, three blocks, seven turnovers and 12 fouls. With 17 points each for Des Moines Christian were Addy Oetker and Abby Hall. Des Moines Christian will play Wahlert Catholic or Solon on Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024.

Congratulations to Melisa Venneman for completing the School Business Officials Authorization Program. The two-year training program and one-year Mentoring Program are required for all new school business officials (SBOs). Every school district in Iowa must employ a school business official with an SBO authorization. Again, congratulations on this great accomplishment!

BC at Coe College Jazz Summit today

Funds generated from the VPPEL would be used for renovations to outdoor areas at all attendance centers. Examples of those renovations could include tuckpoint work, landscaping, signage, playgrounds, doors, roof repair, and more.

Yesterday afternoon, elementary teachers were able to spend time digging into work on writing standards assessment. Staff at the MS/HS spent time engaging with families in Parent-Teacher Conferences.

Thank you to Theresa Ludeking for serving 10+ years on the Benton Community School Board. Your service and dedication to Benton Community District is greatly appreciated! Congratulations to her replacement newly appointed District 5 (Norway area) School Board Member Aric Becker.

HVAC updates in each building throughout the district is a priority area for the funds that would be generated by the VPPEL.
