TEAM: Together Everyone Achieves More. A valuable team member is a trait that we strive to develop in our Bobcats every day. Active listening and effective communication are two areas that can be challenging for young learners to develop as they are excited to share their ideas with one another. In our classroom, students are provided with numerous opportunities to collaborate and foster skills that will be used throughout their lives.

We use Kahoot, an engaging game-based learning platform, in our first-grade classroom. This tool activates student learning by testing their knowledge and reiterating important concepts. Kahoot displays a question and students answer on their own devices. Students can play individually and compete against each other or play in small groups. Recently, we have been using the team mode, which sorts the students into three or four member teams. Students are given a short amount of time to collaborate and agree on an answer to the question. Not only does this allow students to develop their speaking and listening skills, but it also provides a safe learning environment for students to share their ideas in a small group.

Our Bobcats can be competitive on the field or in the classroom but also know how to work as a team. Through this experience, we are building future-ready individuals who can be part of a team and make a difference!
