Benton Community School District students and staff returned to several updated facilities this fall, thanks to a busy summer of campus improvements designed to enhance the student experience across the district.
Utilizing funds from the Voter-Approved Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (VPPEL), generously supported by district patrons, the district added a dehumidification system to Atkins Elementary along with other HVAC maintenance related improvements to Norway Intermediate, Keystone Elementary, and the MS/HS. While these upgrades are generally not visible to the public, they are needed additions to help ensure the longevity of those individual systems and a comfortable learning environment.
In addition to VPPEL-funded work, the district utilized revenue from the statewide 1-cent sales tax to complete a variety of high-impact facility upgrades. Sales tax revenue supported the installation of new turf on the stadium field, a new gymnasium floor at Atkins Elementary, a new activities door system at the MS/HS, and various other projects like carpet and concrete replacement.
Another major improvement partially funded through sales tax revenue was the construction of a new concession stand, restrooms, and a dedicated storage building at the softball field. This project was made possible in large part by a generous $75,000 donation from the Athletic Booster Club. This project would not have been initiated without the help from the Boosters who we generously say “Thank You”.
These comprehensive projects not only improve the safety and comfort of our schools, but also enrich the educational and athletic experiences of our students. We are deeply grateful to our community members, district patrons, and the Athletic Booster Club for making these vital updates possible.
