One of my favorite parts of preschool is watching those little “I can do it!” moments. When children open their own snack using “pinch, pinch, pull”, put on their jacket, zipping, helping clean up, or doing a craft or art their own unique way, they’re building confidence, coordination, and the belief that they can try things on their own. These small tasks may seem simple, but they help children slow down, problem-solve, and feel proud of themselves.

Independence shows up in the bigger moments too, like climbing the steps, buckling themselves, and riding the bus, field trips, visiting other classrooms, or sharing space with a guest visitor. These are huge accomplishments for three and four-year-olds. Embarking on these adventures in a safe, controlled environment is a great way to allow them to explore and build resilience. Every time they try something new and succeed, their confidence grows. When children feel capable, they show up ready to learn, ready to try, and ready for all the exciting challenges ahead.
