What makes up different mixtures or solutions and how can we separate them from a liquid like water? This is a question that Norway Intermediate 5th graders are trying to answer. They will use the steps to the Scientific Method to get their answer. Students are analyzing particles from gravel, powder, and salt. The next step in the process is to add water and then try to separate the materials. Students have made a hypothesis on ways to separate the water from the three materials.

During the time we learn about the Scientific Method, we also discuss and practice all science safety rules when conducting experiments in the classroom. Students have signed an agreed upon science safety contract to show their commitment to being safe in the classroom.
