Cross-curricular instruction is providing opportunities to reinforce learning by exposing students to content and skills in multiple subject areas. This type of instruction helps students to stay motivated, engaged, and increase critical problem solving skills. By allowing students the opportunity to learn content in different ways they are able to make connections and retain information to deepen their understanding.

Over the past three weeks fourth graders have been focused on learning about the Earth’s natural processes in our reading curriculum. This topic is not only being discussed during our reading block but also throughout the day during writing, science, math, and social studies. As students connect these subjects they are using similar vocabulary, making meaningful connections, and applying skills in different ways. It is exciting to see students build their knowledge to become lifelong learners.
