It’s that time of year again as teachers begin planning quality instruction and students come back to school for a well-rounded educational experience.  This also means that it is time to log back into Schoology, the learning management system (LMS), to keep the communication open between teachers, students and parents. Schoology was chosen by Benton Community as a proactive response for student learning in the light of the Pandemic in the 2020-2021 school year. In the past, teachers used a variety of learning management systems to communicate and store learning materials. As there was a need for a unified LMS system at the Middle School-High School, the decision was made to use Schoology because it paired well with PowerSchool. Some may remember using PowerSchool to check grades. PowerSchool has bought Schoology and continues to be used by Benton Community as our historical record keeper of grades and attendance. Schoology is our “real-time” system for administrators, teachers, students and parents/guardians, the stakeholders at Benton Community.

How do stakeholders use Schoology to keep everyone informed? Teachers use Schoology to post instruction, assignments and general classroom information for daily updates.  Students login to Schoology daily to follow along on their Chromebooks and complete classroom activities and instruction, communicate with staff and demonstrate their learning.  Parents can access Schoology to get an update on their student’s grades, missing assignments, and help support their child’s school experience. Benton Middle School and High School  parents/guardians will be receiving an email with their access codes to gain access to their student’s Schoology courses and grades in the near future along with video instructions on how to log-in to Schoology and the resources Schoology can provide. If parents/guardians still have the Schoology access code from last year, they may use it again to gain access to Schoology again this year. If parents/guardians are having trouble getting into Schoology, try resetting your password.

I am excited for the 2022-2023 school year at Benton Community. The staff has been working hard to get ready and they are looking forward to having students enter their classrooms. I truly believe that Benton Community is an amazing place for all students to get a quality education for a lifetime of learning!
