For many Benton students’ art class is about more than just completing the assignments. Student-led art projects allow students to make creative decisions, and build leadership skills through collaborative or independent work. Students are using their creativity to produce custom made artworks for individual teachers, community members and a variety of school activities. These projects require the students to communicate ideas, plan the designs and take responsibility for the project from the initial idea to completion. When students help lead an art project, they become more invested in the outcome. They are not simply completing an assignment, they are building something that reflects their choices, values, and collective effort.
