Schools play an important role in supporting students’ academic success as well as their social and emotional well-being. Through school-based therapy, students have access to mental health support in a familiar environment where they feel safe and supported. Having a therapist present in the building helps increase access to services and allows for collaboration with students, families, and school staff.

As a school-based therapist with Tanager Place, I work with students in Atkins, Keystone, and Norway who may be experiencing emotional, behavioral, or social challenges. Children experience many changes as they grow, and at times these feelings can feel overwhelming or difficult to express. When left unaddressed, these challenges may impact learning, relationships, or behavior at school. Therapy provides students with a space to talk, build coping skills, and better understand their emotions.

School-based therapy also supports families and staff through consultation, resource sharing, and collaboration to ensure students receive consistent support. By working together, we can reduce barriers to learning, strengthen emotional regulation skills, and promote healthy development both in and out of the classroom.

Whether families have questions, concerns, or simply want to learn more about available resources, school-based therapy is here to help support student success and overall well-being. Reach out to me at dshelton@tanagerplace.org or your school counselor for more information!
