Inclusion Week at Benton Community School is a time to celebrate and embrace the uniqueness of every student, regardless of any differences. This year marks the 8th anniversary of Benton’s involvement in Inclusion Week, a special event that aims to foster a sense of belonging and acceptance among all members of the school community. This year’s inclusion week was March 4-8th.

The highlight of Inclusion Week is the coloring contest and poster contest open to elementary, middle school, and high school students. Participants are encouraged to unleash their creativity and express themselves through art, emphasizing the importance of diversity and inclusion. The colorful creations serve as a visual representation of the unity and acceptance present within the school.

Middle school student council plays a vital role during Inclusion Week by reading inclusive stories to elementary students. Monday, members of the middle school student council traveled to the Atkins and Keystone Elementaries and read children’s books centered on inclusion and diversity. The younger students are exposed to narratives that celebrate diversity and promote acceptance. This inter-grade collaboration not only nurtures a sense of community but also instills important values of tolerance and inclusivity among students of all ages.

One of the engaging activities during the week is the "Find the Inclusion Duck" contest. Students eagerly search for hidden rubber ducks placed around the school, each symbolizing the value of inclusivity. This fun and interactive game not only promotes a sense of camaraderie but also reinforces the idea that everyone has a place in the Benton community.

In addition to the exciting contests, students are encouraged to sign the Inclusion Pledge, affirming their commitment to creating a welcoming environment for all. By pledging to respect and value differences, students actively contribute to building a culture of understanding and empathy within the school.

As a token of solidarity, "Inclusion is My Superpower" t-shirts were made available for staff members. By wearing these empowering t-shirts, the staff proudly demonstrates their support for inclusion. It serves as a role model for students, showcasing the belief that embracing differences makes us all stronger together.

Inclusion Week at Benton Community School serves as a reminder of the power of diversity and acceptance. Through various activities and initiatives, students are encouraged to celebrate individually, embrace differences, and cultivate a community where everyone feels valued and included. This annual event reinforces the school's commitment to promoting inclusivity and unity, making Benton Community a place where every student can thrive and belong.
