First grade students learned about the Meskwaki culture. In this unit, students compared life in the past to life today and identified similarities and differences between our cultures. This aligns with our first grade Social Studies Standard SS.1.21. Compare life in the past to life today within different communities and cultural groups, including indigenous communities.
To wrap up our unit, students participated in activities such as jewelry making, designing vests, creating their own name, learning a cultural dance, and making pies. Students truly enjoyed this interactive and engaging experience.
