Second grade had planned to have a celebration on 2-22-22…. The weather had other plans for us.  But we were not deterred!  We walked in backward into our room on 2-23-22 and went back in time!  Our day began looking for pairs of items that go together.  We discussed in our word work how the last consonant is “doubled” when adding ‘ing’ or ‘ed’ if the word has a short vowel.  For our reading, we read the book Tuesday.  This is a fantastical book with all kinds of cool things happening on Tuesday (which we read on Wednesday). We sequenced and discussed the book.  We learned about homophones-words that sound the same but are spelled differently.

In math, we worked with double numbers and learned about symmetry.  We used geometrical pictures and used pattern blocks to “duplicate” the other side of the picture.  They enjoyed working with geometrical shapes and learning the aspects of symmetry.

Our writing for the day involved thinking about what we would be doing in 22 years.  We are going to have construction workers, babysitters, doctors, you tubers, weather reporters, pizza makers, house cleaners, and football players, just to mention a few!  They would like to live in mansions, the country, cabins and some will have 0 children while others will have 7!

We ended the day with Starburst Duos!
