Scary Skeletons!  October might make you think of Halloween and skeletons….but if you are a third grader at Atkins Elementary you are also learning about the bones in our body for Science. Students have been studying bones for two weeks now. We have watched videos about how our bones, joints, and muscles are connected. We conducted some experiments on how our life would change if we didn’t have those bones, muscles, or joints. Students estimated and then found out the exact number of how many bones are in our arms (30), our legs (30), our torso (60) and our skull (26). Students then were able to construct Mr. Bones, our skeleton, showing what is hidden beneath our skin and our muscles. We were all surprised to find out that most grown adults have 206 bones in our body!
