Our district’s school counseling program is designed to support the growth and success of EVERY student. The school counselor is not just someone students see when there is a problem, rather, they are a proactive partner in helping all students build skills, form positive relationships, and feel a sense of belonging at school.
At Benton, counselors support students in a number of ways. We deliver weekly classroom guidance lessons, we manage school-wide social emotional initiatives such as PBIS and Character Strong, and we support small groups as well as individualized plans.
At our lower elementary schools (Atkins and Keystone) ALL students have the opportunity to participate in “Lunch Bunch” small groups throughout the school year. These groups are led by the school counselor and meet during the students’ lunch periods. Lunch Bunches are designed to help students connect with the counselor and their peers in a positive and supportive environment. It is a time for skill-building, structured play, and meaningful reflection. Lunch Bunches help students feel seen and heard and they support the belief that the school counselor is for everyone!
