Our preschool classrooms are currently being filled with imagination, creativity, and a whole lot of “three”! During our special “Three Littles” study, students explore three classic fairy tales: Three Billy Goats Gruff, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and The Three Little Pigs.

Throughout the study, children compare and contrast different versions of each story, discovering how characters, settings, and endings can change depending on the author’s retelling. This study helps build important early literacy skills while encouraging critical thinking and discussion.

While learning about Three Billy Goats Gruff, students become engineers and artists. They design and build bridges strong enough for the goats to cross, create their own unique troll designs, and work together to act out the story as a class. Dramatic play allowed children to build confidence while practicing sequencing and storytelling skills.

During our Goldilocks and the Three Bears unit, students will explore problem-solving and creativity by building chairs for Papa Bear, Mama Bear, and Baby Bear. They will practice sequencing the events of the story and bring the tale to life through group performances. Hands-on activities help reinforce size comparisons such as big, medium, and small.

Our study of The Three Little Pigs focuses on building, counting, and strengthening fine motor skills. Students will design blueprints for their own houses and carefully consider what materials—straw, sticks, or bricks—would make the strongest structure. Through trial and error, they learn valuable lessons about planning, persistence, and teamwork.

This engaging six-week exploration not only brings beloved fairy tales to life but also supports early literacy, math, science, and social development skills. Most importantly, it fosters creativity, collaboration, and a love of learning in our preschool classrooms.
