The Benton Scholarship Foundation, a Dollars for Scholars Chapter, is a non-profit organization founded in 1990. Our mission is to help provide higher education for Benton graduates through the generous donations from businesses, patrons and friends of Benton Community in the form of scholarships.
Benton Scholarship Foundation (BSF) helps students by being part of the National Dollars for Scholars program. More than 450 post-secondary educational institutions nationwide -- 42 in Iowa--have formed partnerships with BSF and Dollars for Scholars. These Collegiate Partnerships enhance the scholarships provided by BSF by committing to use BSF Dollars for Scholars awards to fill any unmet student need remaining after the institution's financial aid package has been calculated. When unmet need no longer exists, the scholarships are used to adjust the self-help portion of the students financial aid package. This agreement guarantees that it is the student, not the institution, who benefits from the scholarships. Also, in some instances, colleges will particiapate in matching the funds provided by BSF. It is important that the post-secondary institution of each BSF scholarship is aware that the BSF scholarship a student has received is a Dollars for Scholars award, so that each student reaps the benefits of the connection between BSF and Dollars for Scholars partnership with the participating colleges.
The BSF has numerous permanent scholarships that are awarded each year. Permanent Scholarships Please contact any of the board members listed to find out more information on the Benton Scholarship Foundation. Board Members

Forty-six Benton graduates received a total of $27,700 in scholarships in 2009
from the BSF. The total amount increases each year. Two students also
received scholarships from the LaVerne Kerkman estate totaling over $15,700 over
four years.
In the last sixteen years, total assets of the Benton Scholarship Foundation
have increased from $17,300 to $537,538.90 as of 9/9/2009.
For the sixteenth consecutive year these local banks have agreed to donate to
the Foundation:
For the cost of one cup of coffee a day, you could help buy a book for a college student. Your donation is 100% tax deductible.
You can also increase the value of your contribution by checking with your employer to see if they will provide a dollar for dollar match for your gift.
